Welcome

I am a San Francisco based ceramicist and former chef that has been working with clay for over 30 years. My 40 year (overlapping) creative food background shapes how I think about pots: I care about how they actually work in a kitchen and on a table—how a mug feels in your hand, how a bowl holds a meal, and whether a plate can stand up to daily use. I still fully enjoy the process of both cooking and creating vessels to hold and serve food everyday.

In the studio, I both handbuild and throw, making high-fire functional stoneware intended for everyday life. I like making pieces that are durable, straightforward, and reliable: microwave, dishwasher, and oven safe, and built to be used often, not just looked at. I still really enjoy the making itself—the problem-solving, the creation, and guiding a piece through from a lump of clay to something that becomes part of someone’s daily routine.

Alongside my own work, I also enjoy teaching ceramics to students at all levels. I enjoy helping people get comfortable with the material, refine their skills, and make pieces they’ll actually use. My approach is practical and down-to-earth, with a focus on clear instruction, useful techniques, and building confidence at the wheel and at the table.
